Pillow features
Developed in collaboration with occupational physiotherapist Jenni Ahopelto, the adjustable Body pillow meets common challenges related to sleep ergonomics, by providing a new kind of sleeping comfort. The extra-long Familon Body pillow provides particularly good support at night and is a suitable support pillow for sleepers of all ages and body types.
Having a pillow under your head only may not always provide the best sleeping position, and many discover a wonderful new feeling of weightlessness in sleeping positions supported by full-body pillows.
The Familon Body pillow is also suitable for allergy sufferers.
Pillow structure
The Familon Body pillow is filled with soft 100% recycled polyester, 1380 g, that adapts to the contours of the body. The filling is made of secondary raw material sourced from recycled PET bottles. It takes 48 PET bottles to make one pillow.
The full-body pillow is divided into five compartments that hold the filling tightly in place, so the filling does not get pushed into one end of the pillow under the person’s weight. Both ends of the body pillow have a zip for adjusting the pillow’s height. The cover is 100% cotton.
The size of the body pillow supporting the whole body is 140x30x30 cm. At its highest point, at the upper end, the Familon Body pillow is about 30 cm high, and about 20 cm high at the lower end. The body pillow, which enables the correct sleeping position, is ergonomically shaped in the longitudinal direction to give just the right support for your upper body, midriff, and legs.
The unique Familon Body pillow is ergonomically shaped, and is higher and plusher than the popular Ergo Selkä body pillow.
The Body full-body pillow is stitched into a white pillowcase (50x140 cm). The narrower end of the special-size pillowcase has a zip for putting it on the pillow. Pillowcases for the body pillow can also be bought separately.
How it works
The elongated pillow supports the sleeper in a partial side position, with one leg bent over the pillow and the other straight alongside it. By supporting the chest, the shaped top of the pillow also supports the thoracic spine and upper limb, preventing harmful back rotation and strain on the shoulders. The lower part of the pillow fully supports the legs from ankle to hip. The position is therefore balanced in relation to the mattress, and no pressure is applied to the nerves of the hip or ankle. The Familon Body pillow can also be used behind the back to support the spine. This will take pressure off the shoulder and hip.
The Familon Body pillow is also suitable as a pregnancy pillow since, during late pregnancy, the long pillow helps expectant mothers with sleep and back problems by softly supporting the body and stomach. A well-supported side position prevents back pain and makes it easier to fall asleep.
Many people know the long body pillow as a ‘boyfriend pillow’; using it as a sleep buddy is a good way of improving sleep ergonomics, particularly if you are a side sleeper. This completely water-washable, soft pillow makes a flexible sleeping companion, as it adapts readily to the contours of the body.
