From futon to Hotel continental bed

What we want from bedding products can vary over the years.

How does it feel to switch from a low and hard mattress to a plush continental bed? Read below Instagram influencer @mmarj00's experiences of the change.

My husband and I slept on a futon mattress for years. At first, the low harder mattress seemed the perfect solution for us. As the years went by, both of us started having more back problems and the age of 40 loomed on the horizon, we started talking about a better bed.

In the mornings, getting up from the futon was becoming awkward because of its low height, so we wanted more height in bed. Our mattress had also formed pits where we both slept and I found myself seeking the middle of the bed, the highest point, as much as possible at night. A futon mattress requires regular turning and a 180 cm wide heavy mattress is not the most comfortable to turn, so we were also looking for a bed that doesn't require so much turning.

We compared beds more or less actively for almost a year.

The most important factors were a good quality firm mattress that does not form a pit, and we also wanted to take into account the size difference between the two sleepers. We tested several beds in the shops and almost all of them felt too soft or the prices were too high for our budget.

The first thing that caught my attention about the Hotel continental bed was the fact that the beds are used in hotels, so I thought they were of good quality. The bed was just the right height and when we finally chose a firm, cool Air top mattress, we finally got the whole thing just right for us. We both like to sleep in a slightly cooler bedroom and the breathable and cooling mattress has suited us well.

At first, the bed felt quite high after years of sleeping on a futon and a few nights were spent getting used to a bed that flexes, as the futon hardly yielded at all.

In a few nights, we got used to the new bed and for the first time in my life when I was travelling and lying on a hotel bed a while ago, I missed my own bed at home, so I guess we made a good choice!

I hope that the Hotel bed will provide us with good sleep for many years to come.
