Good sleep since 1966 – Familon celebrates its anniversary

Something that wraps around you with the same sense of calm as the northern fells, endless forests, or the waves of the Baltic Sea – a way to sleep better. In 2026, we celebrate 60 years of expertise in Nordic sleep.
Founded in 1966, Familon has grown over six decades into a pioneer of Finnish sleep innovation and one of the most recognized names in Nordic sleep.
It all begins with sleep
Finland was a nation in transition in the 1960s. Domestic industries were modernizing, and new materials and innovations were finding their way into everyday life. In 1966, a name was registered that would make its mark on the history of Finnish sleep: Familon. Even then, we believed that good sleep is the purest form of wellbeing – and in the North, we know how to sleep wisely. Our goal was clear: to create mattresses and pillows that make sleep better for everyone, every night.
Six decades of better sleep
Over the years, we’ve studied sleep closely – through technology, materials, and experience. In the 1970s, Familon became a market leader in mattresses, duvets, and pillows, and even appeared in Finland’s iconic maternity packages.
By the 1980s, our products found their way into homes across the country. In the 1990s, we introduced the first duvets and pillows filled with recycled fibers. Responsibility has always been as natural to us as sleep is to life itself.
As the 2000s began, sleep became more personal than ever – shaped by individual needs and new innovations. We launched intelligent comfort beds and ergonomic children's collections designed for every sleeper. In the 2010s, Familon joined the Nordic Wendre Group, becoming an even stronger part of the region’s sleep heritage. Pure Nordic Sleep took on a new, clearer form.
Following the trail of Nordic sleep
In the North, life moves to the rhythm of the seasons. Endless midsummer light and the quiet, lingering darkness of winter have always shaped the way we sleep. It was in these conditions that the idea was born – one that has guided us for sixty years: good sleep is wellbeing in its purest form.
Familon has always been more than a maker of beds and bedding. It has been gentleness on crisp winter nights, lightness in bright summer dawns, and a companion to silence in an increasingly loud world. Over the years, our brand has journeyed from homes to hotels, ships, and public spaces – everywhere rest is needed.
